Dryden Neighbourhood Legacy Project – Breakfast Club
Charity/Project Information
Timberkids teamed up with TIMBER MART to sponsor SharpShooter. The SharpShooter online contest featured a Facebook game and a mobile app that required participants to play a skills-based hockey game and contribute their points to their local minor hockey association. At the end of the contest period, those points were turned into ballots and 10 finalist teams were randomly selected. Finalist associations were asked to submit a proposal outlining how the prize money would help both the association and its youth-focused community organization of choice. A panel of judges from the Timberkids Foundation Board scored the proposals and awarded prizes to five teams, which together received $100,000.
The grand prize winner of the TIMBER MART SharpShooter contest was the Dryden Minor Hockey Association and its community partner, the Dryden Neighbourhood Legacy Project – Breakfast Club. The Breakfast Club is run by local hockey coaches who dedicate their time on two mornings each week to run an early morning hockey practice. After an hour of physical activity on the ice, players are fed a healthy breakfast before going to school. Parents volunteer to prepare the breakfast. All of this is given to the players free of charge so anyone can join and the program is a huge benefit to the youth in Dryden.
